January, the Inspiration of the Free Revolutionaries

The anniversary of the January 25th Revolution dawns upon us, having become an inspiring spirit for all the free people of the world. It remains vivid in the conscience of the great Egyptian people, despite the desperate attempts of the coup plotters to obliterate its features, erase its values, eliminate it, persecute its heroes, and extinguish its flame.

January will always be an icon for liberation from tyranny and corruption. It has proven the ability of the free and honorable to lead the masses' awareness to express the will of the people. It has embodied an everlasting scene of national consensus around the choice of freedom for a better future, achieving comprehensive national independence, and empowering the masses to choose their rulers.

The January Revolution was a national project that united all components and spectra of the Egyptian people around it. They entrusted their dreams to it, hoping it would lead to the resurgence of their country; to see the light, return Egypt to its leading position, and recover its strength that was depleted by despotism over decades.

It was expected that this popular will would face fierce opposition from those lying in wait for Egypt, both domestically and abroad, leading to a coup against the democratic experience on July 3, 2013. This was despite the efforts of all honorable Egyptians from all currents, including the Muslim Brotherhood, to foil the soft coup plans against the revolution, leaving the despots with no choice but to execute a brutal coup.

On this anniversary, we will not forget the martyrs who sacrificed their lives from the start of the blessed January Revolution until today for the liberation of their people. We will not forget the steadfast men and women behind bars, who still raise the banner of January and cling to its principles, enduring hardship in the prisons of the coup.

The Muslim Brotherhood, as a comprehensive reform entity, renews its commitment to work with all national partners to achieve the revolution's demands for freedom, social justice, and dignified living. It also renews its call to all national forces to come together for consultation and cooperation to explore ways to save the nation, which is suffering from economic disasters during this dangerous phase, putting Egypt at risk and pushing it to the brink, amidst the coup's efforts to exhaust Egypt's historical reserves and its leading position regionally and globally.

We affirm that the reasons for the January Revolution are still present and are increasing amidst the current economic collapse, the rigging of the people's will, domestication of political parties, selling off state assets, confiscation of freedoms, and muzzling of voices. Today, people face the bitter truth as the promises of the coup and its sweet words no longer deceive anyone. Everyone realizes that the coup plotters' promises were mere vain talk and deception, and their promises have become like a mirage in a desert. Egypt now eagerly awaits the resumption of the march towards living, freedom, and social justice, to reassert the people's will; to own their decision and resume their hopes in building a free and dignified nation {And that is not difficult for Allah}. Tomorrow is close for those who wait.
