Freedom and Justice Party Illegitimate Disbanding Deferred by Administrative Court
The military junta in Egypt is endeavoring to ban the FJP, the country's evidently most popular political party.

An Egyptian court has postponed a session to officially dissolve and seize all the assets of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) to Wednesday, August 6, according to a Supreme Administrative Court decision issued Saturday, August 2, 2014.

Earlier, a highly-politicized Parties Affairs Committee (PAC) demanded the disbanding of the FJP, claiming possession of documentary evidence of FJP violations of the political parties code of conduct.

In his defense statement, Mahmoud Aboul-Enein, member of the FJP's defense team, said: "PAC's demand to dissolve the FJP has thus far been dealt with in an expeditious manner. It is being especially fast-tracked.

"The only reason given by PAC for demanding the dissolution of the FJP is alleged irregularities. However, PAC has provided no evidence of any failings or violations. This is sufficient grounds to stop the proceedings until a decision is issued in the case investigating those supposed FJP irregularities. No verdict, ruling or decision has been issued in that case until this very moment. In fact, a ruling that exonerates the FJP is a strong possibility. Hence, it is essential that a court ruling is issued in that case before any authority seeks to dissolve the FJP."

Aboul-Enein further pointed that he had defense arguments regarding the unconstitutionality and invalidity of PAC's demand to disband the FJP, and that those arguments require documental evidence from PAC before a final decision could be issued in this case.

It is worth mentioning that the FJP, which the putschists now seek to dissolve, was established on June 6, 2011 as the first party created after the January 25 (2011) Revolution. It was chaired by President Mohamed Morsi (before he became President). He was succeeded by Saad Al-Katatni, now unjustly jailed pending a number of fabricated cases. The FJP quickly became the most popular political party in Egypt.
