Dr. Mahmoud Hussein, Muslim Brotherhood Secretary-General, said that the Muslim Brotherhood rejects violence and never attacks anyone. He added that various popular groups and movements gathered outside the Presidential Palace in a peaceful demonstration to defend true legitimacy, and to renew endorsement of their elected President Mohamed Morsi.
"Unfortunately, after we arrived, we were surprised to hear Popular Current leaders urge their supporters to confront our peaceful demonstrations. This gave enemies of the Revolution an opportunity to attack our supporters using guns, Molotov cocktails and stones.
A gang of those attackers were caught red-handed, carrying firearms and Molotov cocktails, and were promptly handed over to security forces on the scene.
"We urged all Brotherhood supporters to use restraint and keep their rallies peaceful, in order to calm things down, and so as not to give anyone an opportunity to exploit the situation to ignite sedition. We remain hopeful that the opposition responds to calls for dialogue and renounce violence." |
