Dr. Essam Al-Haddad, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)’s Foreign Relations Committee Officer, received on Monday 23 April 2012 the Japanese Ambassador to Egypt Norihiro Okuda, at the headquarters of the FJP in Cairo.

Dr. Haddad welcomed the ambassador of Japan, pointing that Egypt is on the verge of a major turning point in its history, in the shape of the upcoming presidential elections.

Further, he assured that it is able to overcome all obstacles, and that the FJP has confidence in the awareness of the great Egyptian people, and that they will rally around the Renaissance Project offered by the party's candidate for the presidency Dr. Mohamed Morsi.

Moreover, Dr. Haddad mentioned that the decision to field a nominee for the Presidency was made after deep analysis of the situation, seeking Egypt’s best interests above all else, with full realization of the great responsibility.

“As an integral part of this homeland and the revolution, we seek to fulfill the demands of the revolution and the aspirations of the Egyptian people.”

Dr. Haddad said that the party respects court rulings, and understands the role of the judiciary in the next phase, which requires upholding the rule of law, adding that the FJP believes the handover of power must take place at the end of June. He further said that the party will not accept any delay or postponement, and will stand strongly against dubious maneuvers.

Furthermore, Dr. Haddad called for promoting Egyptian – Japanese partnerships in all political, economic and cultural areas, and especially the investment, tourism, industry and training sectors. He also underscored the need to implement and follow-up projects and agreements between the two sides.

For his part, the ambassador of Japan expressed his happiness for meeting the FJP leader and the bolstering of the relationship between the two countries, especially as the new government is to be formed, and after the transfer of power to the new elected president at the end of June. He also underlined the desire of his country to explore partnership opportunities that would benefit both countries, and expressed hope that Egypt will pass the current phase of democratic transformation successfully.
