Morsi Demands Engaging All Stakeholders

The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) convened, Sunday morning (January 15, 2012), the third orientation meeting for its members of parliament who won seats in the third phase elections for the People's Assembly - under the banner "The Role of MPs Between Monitoring and Legislation.

The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) convened, Sunday morning (January 15, 2012), the third orientation meeting for its members of parliament who won seats in the third phase elections for the People's Assembly - under the banner "The Role of MPs Between Monitoring and Legislation." The meeting was attended by 60 new MPs, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Morsi, FJP Chairman, Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, FJP Secretary-General, and Dr. Essam El-Erian, FJP Vice Chairman, as well as Hussein Ibrahim and Saad Al-Husseini, members of FJP Executive Office.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Mohamed Morsi congratulated the new MPs, urging them for success in the new mission entrusted to them, stressing that the Egyptian people expect a lot from the post-revolution Parliament.

Dr. Morsi said that the convening of this new Parliament on 23 January is the best gift to the Egyptian people who made great sacrifices during the revolution of the twenty-fifth of January, and even before that, which requires party members to make every effort to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the Egyptian people.

Further, the FJP Chairman discussed the problems that face Egypt at this stage. He mentioned attempts by dubious domestic parties - which are still affiliated with the former regime - as well as plots by certain foreign actors - who do not want Egypt to achieve its rightful place in, the future - to sabotage and derail the revolution. He added that this requires FJP MPs to work with all political parties, forces and stakeholders represented in Parliament in order to unify efforts to safely take Egypt across this critical transitional phase.

The FJP Chairman also spoke of the legislative role entrusted to party MPs during the next phase. He pointed out that his meeting, together with Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, with Dr. Kamal Ganzouri Saturday (14 January 2012) was to explore formulas for cooperation between the government and parliament with regard to the government’s legislative agenda and that which the FJP will present.

Furthermore, the FJP Chairman underlined the importance of the supervisory role of state bodies and institutions, as an essential duty to contain the rampant corruption the former regime helped spread and prevail in all institutions of society, which represents a major challenge for the party’s MPs during the next phase.

The meeting offered several training courses on the role of MPs during the next phase, the importance of interaction with the public, and ways to unify the visions to work with all political parties and leanings inside and outside of Parliament, to serve the interests of the Egyptian people, as well as courses on how to deal with the media.
