Beltagy: FJP Regrets Low Number of Coptic Candidates in Parliamentary Elections
Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, member of the Freedom and Justice Party’s (FJP) Executive Office, expressed his regret at the low participation of Copts in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, member of the Freedom and Justice Party’s (FJP) Executive Office, expressed his regret at the low participation of Copts in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Beltagy stated that the FJP worked hard to include a large number of Coptic Christian candidates on the Democratic Alliance electoral list, however the numbers of Copts were not as high as they had wished due to Copt's unwillingness to run for elections.
 
Beltagy added that the Democratic Alliance (DA) was the only coalition which succeeded in coordinating with all national and political forces representative of all factions. He said that the DA consists of Islamist parties including the FJP, the Nahda and Eslah Parties, Liberal parties including Ghad, Althowra, and Elgeel, and Nationalist parties including Karama, in addition parties formed newly after the revolution.

Beltagy told Ikhwanweb that other coalitions were solely lslamist, leftist or liberal. “There is no problem if national forces compete for seats on the electoral list as it is based on percentages and a large number of parties may acquire seats. The real problem is with the individual seats where remnants from the former regime may sneak their way into parliament”, he stated.

Therefore, Beltagy called on all factions to coordinate with each other for individual seats in parliament in order to guarantee the highest number of seats for the national and pro-revolution factions and to outnumber remnants from the former regime from acquiring seats.
