The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) in coordination with leaders from Abi-Sefeen Church in Maadi district nipped sedition in the bud Tuesday, as members of both the party and church cleaned the area from accumulating refuse near the church which had begun skirmishes between Muslims and Copts, attributing the growing pile to sectarian strife.

Residents joined in the cleaning process as the piles of rubbish which obstructed traffic were removed from the district’s main street, ending a 6 month old feud.

FJP co-founder and Muslim Brotherhood member Dr. Waleed Al-Aidy stressed that the citizens were unaware of the reasons behind the accumulating rubbish and levelled charges without evidence. “The authorities are responsible for cleaning the streets and removing the garbage. They have failed to step up to the plate and clean the area. We took action and organized protests and decided to clean the streets after the governorate’s council and mayor disregarded their roles in an effort to end conflicts,” he said.
