The Liberties Committee belonging to the Lawyers' Syndicate has called for the suspension of the forthcoming election if the Higher Election Commission (HEC) refuses to implement numerous court decisions on registering some candidates that have been excluded from running. They also appealed to the Egyptian public prosecutor to intervene and protect the candidates and their supporters from harassment at the hands of state security forces.
A number of MB candidates talked about countless cases of abuse and atrocities that were committed recently against them, including Dr Mohammed Al-Beltagui, Essam Mokhtar, Dr Gamal Korny, Saber Abu el-Fotoh, Mustafa Mohammed Mustafa, Adel Fathi, and Al-Mohammadi Al-Sayyed. They labeled the electoral process as a farce because their names were not put on the list, asserting that the government has deliberately falsified the elections. They also demanded the HEC to implement court rulings.
