GAZA, Ansar Al-Asra (advocates for prisoners) organization said that the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails suffered during the last four years much more than what they experienced over the past 40 years, attributing this deterioration to the inter-Palestinian division.

This came during a symposium on the internal division and its impacts on the issue of prisoners organized Saturday in Gaza by the Palestinian progressive youth union.

Head of the organization Jamal Farwana stated in his speech that the Israeli prison administrations took advantage of the state of division in the Palestinian arena and divided prisoners into groups according to their political affiliations and residential areas, which made the prisoners lose their ability to make a united decision in the face of the violations committed against them in prison.

Farwana added that the organizations and activists concerned with prisoners' affairs were also affected by the division, where many institutions were closed in the West Bank and their cadres were hunted and arrested, the thing which undermined their solidarity activities.

He appealed for necessarily ending the division or at least keeping the issue of prisoners away from political disputes.
