Jordanians demand their gov’t to cut its ties with Israel

Different Jordanian national figures including politicians and intellectuals called on their government to sever its relations with Israel in response to its decision to deport tens of thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank.

AMMAN, -- Different Jordanian national figures including politicians and intellectuals called on their government to sever its relations with Israel in response to its decision to deport tens of thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank.

In a joint statement signed by about 50 Jordanian national figures, they called for terminating all kinds of relations with Israel and declaring the death of Wadi Araba treaty.

The signatories to the statement considered the Israeli deportation decision as a declaration of war on the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples and affirmed that the Jordanian people are ready to extend all forms of sacrifice in the context of the national policies in order to confront the Zionist danger.

They criticized the confusion of the government and its contradicting positions towards the Israeli decision and deplored the American administration and the European Union for pressuring and blackmailing Jordan into taking measures to resettle the Palestinians.

Their statement warned that the Israeli decision would deprive hundreds of thousands of West Bankers who are living in refugee camps from their natural right to return to their homes in the West Bank.

The national figures demanded their government to issue a transparent statement that includes a serious assessment of the situation in the West Bank and the actions it should take to confront the Zionist schemes threatening Palestine and Jordan.

In a new development, the Israeli foreign ministry revealed that the Jordanian Red Crescent and the Israeli university of Ben-Gurion started last October to carry out a joint project in the field of managing crises and emergency situations.

The ministry said that 15 Jordanian students and 13 others from Israel are participating in this project, where they are learning how to work together as a team and coordinate their efforts to respond to any emergency scenarios.

It said that the Israeli national agency for international development cooperation (Mashav) and the European Union along with individual donors funded the project.
