The IOF troops turned the occupied city of Jerusalem into a closed military zone and blocked on Saturday evening all entrances to the Aqsa Mosque to prevent Palestinians from performing prayers inside it.

The IOF troops turned the occupied city of Jerusalem into a closed military zone and blocked on Saturday evening all entrances to the Aqsa Mosque to prevent Palestinians from performing prayers inside it.

According to Al-Jazeera satellite channel, the IOF troops also demanded dozens of Palestinian worshipers who stayed inside the Mosque to defend it from any attack by Israeli settlers to surrender themselves and detained four Jerusalemite citizens.

Al-Jazeera also reported that the all entrances to the Mosque have been closed after Palestinians finished their night prayers at the Mosque, but dozens of worshipers stayed inside for fear of any attack by settlers.

The channel noted that a gathering of extremist Israeli settlers at Al-Maghariba gate have been waiting since yesterday for a chance to enter the Mosque under police protection.

Chief justice of Palestine Sheikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi warned earlier that Jewish groups started to mobilize supporters in settlements near Jerusalem in preparation for storming the Aqsa Mosque on Sunday after a similar attempt last week.

For his part, preacher of the Aqsa Mosque Ekrema Sabri said in a press statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC) that extremist Jewish groups intend to desecrate the holy Mosque under military protection on Sunday to celebrate their religious days.

Sabri added that the Jews use roundabout ways to control the Aqsa Mosque in order to impose a new reality through dividing the courtyards of the Mosque for their rituals.

He noted that what is happening against the Aqsa Mosque is a natural result of the reluctance of Arabs and Muslims to save their Palestinian brothers and the Islamic holy places in Jerusalem, holding them responsible for any consequences that may result from their passivity.
