Hamas stresses positive, stable rapport with Egypt

GAZA, The Hamas Movement has stressed Saturday that its rapport with Egypt was positive and stable, adding that certain media outlets quoted statements of Hamas spokesman in central Gaza Strip Yousef Farahat out of context and on selective basis.

GAZA, The Hamas Movement has stressed Saturday that its rapport with Egypt was positive and stable, adding that certain media outlets quoted statements of Hamas spokesman in central Gaza Strip Yousef Farahat out of context and on selective basis.

 

In a written press statement he issued and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC, Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, the spokesman of Hamas Movement in Gaza Strip, underlined the good relationship between Hamas and Egypt, saying that statements of Farahat expressed the dissatisfaction of Hamas"s cadres of the continued detention of Hamas"s military leader Ayman Nofal in Egyptian jails.

 

"Hamas treats all concerned issues with the Egyptian officials through direct contacts, and in away that preserves the good relationship between the two parties although we stress the need to immediately and swiftly release Nofal.

 

Moreover, Abu Zuhri underscored that the issue of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was attached to the Israeli approval to meet the humanitarian Palestinian conditions to swap him with Palestinian female and children prisoners in Israeli jails, pointing out that a special committee was handling and steering this issue with the Egyptians away from media publicity.

 

Meanwhile, Egyptian sources close to Omar Suleiman, the chief of Egyptian intelligence, highlighted the importance of holding a meeting between Fatah and Hamas Movements, describing such meeting as "the key for the Palestinian reconciliation".

 

Fatah publicly rejected the Egyptian invitation to meet with Hamas before a comprehensive meeting comprising all Palestinian resistance factions could be held. The Fatah rejection was considered as "big blow" to Egypt"s efforts, which Hamas unconditionally agreed on.

 

"It isn’t easy to convince Fatah to change its mind, but we will keep trying to find a way to persuade it as we won"t allow this dialogue to fail because its is an Egyptian and Arab responsibility", the Egyptian sources said.

 

Hamas Movement had accused certain party within the PA and Fatah faction in Ramallah, including security officers, of attempting to sabotage the Egyptian efforts and spoil the dialogue.

 

The Movement also urged the Egyptian leadership to pressure the PA security apparatuses to stop pursuing and arresting Hamas"s cadres in the West Bank to help make the dialogue successful.
