Egyptian police arrested on Monday Kefaya leader Dr. Karima Al Hifnawi and four April 6 activists during their sit in front of Mansheyet Nasser district council with the inhabitants of Al Doweeqa shantytown.

Arrested activists include Ahmed Abu Seteet and Atef Ali.

Security forces in large numbers cordoned Al Doweeqa slum area, that was plagued with a deadly rockslide last week, on Monday night in preparation for confrontations with numerous political activists from diverse national trends who had announced  their intention to hold an open sit-in with the residents of Al Doweeqa in front of their district council demanding proper housing for the victims and impeachment of those responsible for aggravating the crisis.

Some of the protestors announced that the sit-in will move to the downtown Abdeen square in front of Cairo governorate headquarters after security forces aborted the sit in forcefully, arresting Al Hifnawi and several youth whose place of detention is still unknown.
