In Al-Qalyubia The security forces in Al Khankah detained on Monday evening June, 4, 2007, 15 supporters of lawyer Ahmed Khattab, the Muslim Brotherhood candidate for Al Khankah and Shibin El Kanatar constituency in Al-Qalyubia, after the force dispersed an election march in so;idarity for the candidate in the village of Arab Al Aliqat. The security forces were led by Mohamed Makki, commissioner of Al Khankah police station, and major general Mostafa Salem- the force chief, and 3 big police trucks full of central security soldiers. The election committee members held expanded investigations with the candidates and faced them with the appeal’s charges of: joining an outlawed group and carrying out unconstitutional campaigning. The MB candidates rejected these groundless accusations, and criticized the security intervention in the election process, the harassments exercised against them in various means of campaigning in addition to hunting their supporters and intimidating voters and using bullies in favour of the ruling National Party,. The committee decided to postpone issuing decisions on these appeals till next Wednesday to announce the final decision towards these appeals. The same is expected with other candidates.
